The Lancean Specificity

Tumbleweeds from the Desert

I. So I Begin

I begin as I have been again
To write myself out of this hole I am in
So I say when discouraged like yesterday
Then with a pencil clear the cobwebs away

Beginning forever because ending never
Quite suited me
Beginning is already halfway to winning
Actually

Yesterday I began again
I wrote myself out of that hole I was in
And if I can do it today who can say
But as I have been so I begin

II. Round and Round

Circling the drain of homelessness
Squaring the pain of hopelessness
With hope for happiness ahead
Remembering reality
As formerly it was for me
Though purgatorial instead
Of hell it might as well be for
The pain of death when life hurts more
A dream of life for one as dead

So here I go now round the drain
Not down but round and round again

III. Dead Mouse

Did you flush him down the toilet?
No I kicked him down the hall
And yet you had the balls to let
Him lie there by the wall

Brought in by the cat
At least not a rat

IV. Remember the Rain

The dove grey cloud bank slowly smoothly slides
Across the day as it rides on the rain
Revealing the secrets the sunshine hides
What we forget until it rains again
Of how it falls and fills and feels and how
It is what we forgot about until now

So let the rain come down and wash away
All but the best of it save that but not
The rest of it for tomorrow today
Remember the rain the way we forgot
Until it falls and fills how it feels and
When it rains again we will understand then
Life as it falls and fills an open hand
And how it feels now until it rains again

V. Stony Baloney

The roaches here are stony
Are not bugs and no baloney
When I find them on the floor
Then and I spark them up once more

To be born again to me
As second chance reality
By happenstance to be as I
Am living though I die

In spite of everything
I just keep happening

VI. I Will Bloom Again

The Laughing Daffodil makes me so happy
I bark like a dog and meow like a cat
She makes me laugh too and makes me all sappy
And open and hopeful and I like that

I like her as it were and she likes me too
The Laughing Daffodil who gets me through
And through because she does as it was and will be
Long laugh the Daffodil and shine her smile on me

The power of a flower of the Daffodil is how
Even now at this late hour I will bloom again somehow
